“Always and Forever” by Isabella Duong

To my only one,

Acceptance does not always lead to happiness. What has happened has already happened, and it is not something you can take back or push away. Forgive, not because it will help you forget, but because you deserve to not have to carry the burden of resentment anymore. Accept the past for what it is, but because it is now inescapable, not because you will let yourself stay up at night, wondering what should’ve been, as if you could change it.

Let the grief and sorrow consume you. I say this knowing you will not allow yourself to wallow in pity forever. I know you will get back up on your feet, even if your legs shake and bones tremble. I know this because you are forced to accept and continue moving forward, as you always are. But, it is up to you when, where, how, and why you will become a different person.

Happiness is a desire, but learn to embrace simple contentment, too, if it is all you can manage at that moment. Courage is a want, but let part of you expect fear alongside it, for the two cannot be without one another. You have your limits, and it is up to you to acknowledge and push them.

Being happy is fleeting, but so is being sad. My advice to you is to not let yourself stay. To keep yourself and your emotions fleeting, because both you and I know they will always circle back– only, in different ways.

Truly,
Your Soul

Author’s Note:
This is a letter from a person’s soul to the person. It’s a few of the words I’ve needed to tell myself for a long time, from the very depths of my soul. And, from everyone else’s to their own, too.
