One of my dreams is to run through an endless field of grass.
The kind where you couldn’t even see your ankles.
There’d be an aged barn in the distance somewhere, and the sky would be a delicate light blue.
I would run until I couldn’t anymore, panting, with a wide, toothy grin on my face.
It’s fantasies like this that make my mind go round.
One of my dreams is to give a speech to a crowd one day.
The kind that you reminisce about years down the road.
Knowing me, I’d be so nervous before–
But I’d want my voice to glide through the crowd like molasses, a mellifluous yet powerful tone accompanying my valiant words.
I’d want to see everyone’s eyes fixated on me, knowing that they’d talk and remember it for years to come.
It’s fantasies like this that make my mind go round.
One of my dreams is to be on a long, vast beach all by myself.
The kind where it seemed the waves spoke to you in their way.
There’d be a town behind me, leisurely packing up for the night after an eventful, fulfilling day.
The sky would be a compelling dark navy, with the moon reaching out to the lone shore.
I’d think about everything there was to think about–I’d think of school, of my family, and so much more.
It’s fantasies like this that make my mind go round.
One of my dreams is to write a book.
The kind where it’s almost like glue, that you couldn’t let go.
Whether it’s a short self-help or a full-fledged fantasy, I’d want to impact all who read it.
I’d want my thoughts to flow down onto the page like a waterfall, my words carefully picked and woven into a gold scarf of innovation.
My mind would wind its way onto the next topic, intertwining and interlacing, until it made an intricate web of creativity.
It’s fantasies like this that make my mind go round.
I then realize–I wake up. I’m in my room, staring up at a white ceiling, slowly blinking. I look to my left to see the sun’s early rays peeking through my window. I sit up, legs swinging over my bed
But I still remember all my dreams–all from yesterday, today, and tomorrow
And as small as they are, even if not now, they will be soon
For the human mind–our human minds–knows no bounds.
Author’s Note:
This short free verse poem is simply about small dreams I hope to accomplish one day. I thought it’ll be nice to be able to describe them and shine light onto the small goals in life. It means to me that there’s always something to look forward to in life, you just have to open your mind and hope for it. I hope you enjoy reading!
