I want to go home
To the homes I’ve read about in school
The home where broken glass and shattered hearts don’t litter the ground
Like patches of dead grass in an open field
I learned what a home is
From those who have offered to show me
They presented me warmth with no conditions
And God they were patient
They knew how confused I was
Why I stood in their kitchen
Completely dumbfounded by the lack of fear
I found my home
It’s made of joy, laughter, and most importantly
It’s full of life
There is no fear
No expectations
No pain
Instead, there is warmth
And I couldn’t be happier
Author’s Note:
I wanted to symbolize how easily one’s dream could be another’s nightmare. Why I chose wings to portray that I honestly don’t know, but I like that it doesn’t have one strict kind of interpretation. Its meaning would be different with every person, and that’s what I love most about it.
