“Life Will Be” by Oluwaseyifunmi Ayanwale

I sat, in the cold, at a riverbank.

Occasionally, I would poke at the water

Just to see if it had gotten any warmer.

Hours went by; days, months, and eventually my whole life.

I noticed that as I sat, waiting,

Life went on, despite my hesitance.

The sun still shone through the trees,

The birds and the insects still harmonized,

And the clouds in the sky still drifted.

Life went on.

It was then I realized:

Time truly doesn’t sit still for anyone.

So why should I?

There is no need to be beautiful,

No need to be good,

No need to be perfect,

For as long as I am alive, I have a gift.

I too, have a light that longs to be shone.

A voice that begs to be used.

A path that yearns to be explored.

Author’s Note:
I wrote this piece mainly to remind myself that time doesn’t wait. No matter how long I sit around and wait for things to magically get easier, life will go on, with or without me. So why wait?
