Lord, I pray
For the storms that surround me,
Howling and harrowing.
I pray for the winds that seek to subdue me,
Lord, I’m flailing!
I pray to plant my feet upon your rock;
Let me not falter.
And my God will answer.
Lord, I pray
For my teetering and trembling knees,
Threatening to drag me down.
I pray for the weakness wracking my feet.
Lord, I’m writhing!
I pray that you grant them strength anew,
So I may kneel and worship you.
And my God will answer.
Lord, I pray
For the dreadful dreams that devour my sleep;
For the thoughts that pierce my mind.
Lord, I cannot continue!
I pray that you abolish my anxiety
So I can pray in peace.
And my God will answer.
In my desperation, I prayed,
And the Lord my God answered—
With whispers of peace,
With winds of strength,
With His steadfast, unfailing love
He lifted me from despair.
Author’s Note:
I often write poems as a form of note-taking during my church services. The day I wrote this, I remember the Lord asking me to write this like I was praying to him, and after I shared it with others, they said that it spoke to them and what they were going through. I hope that by sharing this, it can help to encourage others with whatever is going on in their lives!
