NextBigSib: Teen-to-Teen Mental Health Support

Mental health support for teens is often difficult to access—whether because of cost, availability, or stigma. That’s where NextBigSib comes in. Founded by 16-year-old Juhi Samanta, NextBigSib is a nonprofit dedicated to bridging the gap by connecting teens with trained peer mentors, called BigSibs.

Why Peer-to-Peer Support Matters

Too many teens who need help never find it. NextBigSib was created to make sure they don’t have to face challenges alone.

Through its one-on-one mentorship program, teens are paired with BigSibs—peers who listen, guide, and provide emotional support. This model allows for conversations that feel safe and relatable, because sometimes the best person to talk to is someone who’s been there too.

What NextBigSib Offers

NextBigSib isn’t just about mentorship—it’s about building community. The program also organizes discussion forums on topics like:

  • Coping skills
  • Stress management
  • Self-confidence

These forums give teens a chance to ask questions, share their challenges, or simply connect with others who understand. And for those looking to step up as leaders, volunteer opportunities are available—giving teens the chance to become BigSibs themselves.

The Impact So Far

Since launching, NextBigSib has reached nearly 8,000 people. Each participant gains not only a trusted mentor but also access to a supportive network and practical tools for navigating teenage life.

“By joining, teens gain a trusted BigSib, a supportive community, and tools to navigate the challenges of teenage life.”

Meet the Founder

Behind the program is Juhi Samanta, a 16-year-old passionate about mental health, history, and the arts. While pursuing her A-levels, she’s also exploring her entrepreneurial side by leading NextBigSib and empowering teens to support one another.

NextBigSib proves that peer support can transform lives. By creating spaces where teens feel heard, encouraged, and connected, the program is building a culture of empathy—one BigSib at a time.
