“Oceania” by Aniqah Biswas

To sailors exploring
You seem so adoring
Oh, my love, how they yearn to know your truths

To sailors imploring
Your crevices and trenches
Attempts to be one with whom they adore
Attempting to earn your love

Oceania
So far, so vast
Yet you keep your heart clasped shut
All alone
Yet you flow through your endless life
Craving more

Only so much can save a bleeding heart
Bring her home
With fire and solace, yet she’ll say your burning her soul
You can’t save what refuses to see light
Ironic for the sea, with her span and might

Oceania
How I’d drown in your love
Pull me in
To the sound of your hum

Salty water
How they match your tears
Purified yet
Too little for needs to be met

Oceania
How deep do your lies run?
Trench deep
No light will ever reach your home

How are you, my angel?
Are you starving for love?
Dying, my darling
Searching for hope

Trapped in the jar trying to cope
Breathe in, darling, breathe out
Carbon lungs long for devout
Wrinkled hands, drowning in love
Great Reef Barriers, don’t stop no one

Sailors exploring
Slowly imploring
Starting to learn your shores were never that adoring
Searching for love
Stuck with coral and rum
Oceania, the sea song’s been sung

Author’s Note:
“Oceania” is part of an anthology centered around Greek mythology and the problems of the world. This specific piece is about being in a toxic relationship or environment, as if talking to the person causing the harm, who, in turn, is just as damaged and is taking it out on the rest of the world. To me, the piece is a way to both vent and connect to other people who can relate.
