“The Light Is Better Than the Night. Right?” by Aria Butaney

I see the pool of night that takes over the sun each day as a hand clawing, grasping at what it cannot have. The day is favored over the night, right? Most see the night as a time to go into another world while dreaming, not seeing the beauty in front of them. The night is like the brownie mix before the brownies. It’s not an incomplete concept — it’s the “before”.. But sometimes it’s the after: after the brownies are burnt or after the sun sets. It’s a complete thing, but there’s always something dawning on the horizon — whether it’s a glimpse of hope going forward or the hope that you could’ve done something differently that one day, that one night. The night is like a backdrop for the moon; it’s cast away until you really look — really look — beyond the light and see that the light is not always bright. One day I hope to be like the night: far away and tucked from the light, but something inside yearns for a little bit of hope, like the light. So… is this choice right..?

Author’s Note:
The deeper meaning behind this piece is about choosing something you think is logical over something you love. It’s about the power of decision and also about how something can be so important to you but hated by others. Now the question is which one will you choose?
