“To Not Want, But To Be” by Aj A. Bove

I want to feel free
To not feel like every breath I take is taking too much air around me,
But to be as the wind, traveling far and wide.

I want to feel free
To not live like every day’s the same pain,
But to be as the trees’ branches in the breeze, dancing and thriving.

I want to feel free
To not feel as though I’m chained to the ground,
But to be as the birds, soaring through the open baby-blue sky.

I want to feel free
To not look dull to those around,
But to be as the stars, twinkling in the constellations aligned.

I want to feel free
To not want to keep everything inside,
But to be as the beautiful flower petals, opening wide.I want to feel free
To not want to feel free,
But to finally be free.

Author’s Note:
When discovering this magazine I thought submitting would be amazing and was very intrigued. Writing is something I very much enjoy because its easier sometimes to get words where you can see them then speak them out loud and to share that with other is something that I’ve always wished to be able to do. When writing this poem I wanted to try and write something that many teens would understand and relate to. I chose this topic because I know many teens feel as though they have no control to there situations, this topic also let’s people from all types of back grounds connect in there own special way.
